HOMEWORK:
Third grade will follow the CMS policy of 30 minutes of homework nightly. All homework will be written in the agenda and will be looked over by myself before the end of each day. Homework is expected to be neat, not always correct but neat and on paper that has three holes. If your child does not have their homework they will take a point off of CLASS DOJO. If it happens repeatedly I will contact you for a conference.
AGENDAS:
Please initial the agenda nightly as this lets me know you are checking over their homework each night. I will also be using this to communicate with you often so it is important to review it each night. Starting next week, I will be initialing the agenda at the end of each week to indicate that I have checked over agendas as well.
Friday FOLDERS:
All classwork, tests, and quizzes will be sent home on a weekly basis in Friday Folders. Please go through all work, look at the grade and keep or toss work. But REVIEW and INITIAL FOLDER FIRST! I try to include the important work to look for in my weekly newsletter. If you have any questions about any assignments sent home, please do not hesitate to e-mail!
THIRD GRADING POLICY:
60% Formal: Test/ Assessment, Comprehensive Writing Assessments, Projects.
40% Informal: Homework, Notebook Checks, Participation/ Effort, classwork, Group work.
Corrected Work: If a student has a 79/C or Lower on a Formal assessment, the student may correct the work for half credit but may not 79/C.
For late PROJECTS: 5 points will be deducted for each day late.
REPORT CARDS:
You have received log-in information from CMS and will have access to grades online as they are put in.
This will keep you posted as to what they are earning. You will also see tests, reports, and quizzes in their folders. It is very important that both you and your child are aware of their grades. Please review grades with them.
Please make sure you go over each part of the report card with your child. A's and B's indicate at or above grade level. Please understand if you see a C on your child's report card they are still on grade level. D's and F's are below grade-level work.
All of our students work hard to earn their grades, and all grade-level work should be celebrated. If there are any questions please email me and I will be happy to discuss any of the grades you see on your child's report card.
The CMS grading scale is listed below. Please review it. Last year your child received 1's, 2's, or 3’s as grades. A 3 represents work that consistently meets expectations, this does not always translate to an A on the CMS scale.
GRADING POLICY:
The grading scale for third grade is as follows:
90-100= A
80-89= B
70-79= C
60-69= D
60 and below= F
CLASS DOJO:
We have started using Class Dojo. I will be putting parent e-mails in to receive notifications. If you don't want to have your e-mail put on their website, please let me know and I will not do so. Class Dojo is a way to engage our classroom by recognizing positive behaviors as they happen. Class Dojo allows families to see how students are doing at school by giving you behavior-tracking analytics and reports.
CHANGE IN TRANSPORTATION AND ABSENCES:
If your child is changing their means of transportation for the day, PLEASE send in a note or put in the agenda and make sure your child knows.
If your transportation changes during the day, please email or call the front office and she will contact me. I am not always able to read my emails during the day, therefore I may miss your message if sent directly to me.

If you are picking up other students besides your own make sure they write a note to their teacher, so everyone goes home with the right person.
If their transportation changes DURING THE DAY, please email or call the office. I do not always check my email during the day.
ABSENCE: When your child is absent and I put the absence in our attendance system it will automatically code it as an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE. If the absence is excused (illness, religious holiday, injury, etc.) please send an email or note so it can be changed.
