Transportation Services in CMS:
Transportation Services takes great pride in providing reliable and safe transportation services to students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Led by Executive Director Adam Johnson, CMS Transportation employs over 1,201 staff members who work tirelessly to support students' safe and efficient transportation in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The CMS transportation service area is vast, with 14 operation area offices, including an entire turn-key maintenance division, a safety and training operation, a routing and scheduling division, and central office support staff. The Transportation department maintains a fleet of nearly 1,120 buses—CMS Transportation Call Center (980)-343-6715 or transportation@cms.k12.nc.us.
· Sharon Elementary is assigned to the Myers Park Transportation Department (980)-343-5808. Bus assignments, routes, and drivers are managed through the CMS Transportation Department, not Sharon Elementary.
· Parents, please ensure you have applied for bus transportation for the 2024-2025 school year. Applying for an AM and PM stop is best. To request bus transportation for your child, please click here: Transportation for 2024-2025
If your child will be riding the school bus this year, you should sign up for two critical accounts: Here Comes the Bus App and AlphaRoute. Schools will no longer have bus labels to send home to families. You will need to check AlphaRoute to access your child's bus information.
Here Comes the Bus App
Families with children who ride school buses can use a free bus tracking system. The app allows families to download and access the real-time location of their child's bus on a map and scheduled and actual arrival times at their assigned stop and school.
The CMS Transportation Website (linked) provides directions to sign up for the Here Comes the Bus App.
The app will not track the substitute buses for families.
Here Comes the Bus Hotline: 844-854-9316.
AlphaRoute Portal Account
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools now uses AlphaRoute to process transportation requests. To use the platform, parents must create an account that allows them to submit requests and keeps them informed about the status of their requests via email or text message—whichever communication method they prefer.
Directions to sign up for an AlphaRoute Account can be found on the CMS Transportation Website (linked).
If you have questions about AlphaPortal, contact CMS Transportation at (980) 343-6715.
