UPPER LEVEL CLASSES:
Intermediate Class (level 2)
Proficient Dance Company Class (level 3)
Advanced/IB dance Dance Company Class (level 4)
*During the month of February to May the best days for auditions are Mondays & Fridays between the 2:30 to 4:30 time frame.

What are you looking for in upper level dance students?
strong interest in dance and loves to dance!
prior dance training in at least 2 to 3 of these dance genres: jazz, modern, hip hop, ballet, lyrical/contemporary
coordination & musicality
comfortable & excited about learning & performing a variety of dance genres including but not limited to Jazz, Modern, Lyrical/Contemporary, Hip Hop, African, Latin and much more!
collaborative and cooperative in group settings
creative
prior experience with creating your own combinations - you will be asked to perform a 30 to 45 second combo -see the next question for more details on this.

What should I do prior to the audition?
Choreograph a 30 to 45 second solo highlighting your strengths as a dancer in the style you are best at performing. Your dance can be any genre/style of dance and should include the following items:
kick
leap
jump
turn in place
traveling turn
level changes
tempo variations
locomotor movements (traveling steps)
nonlocomotor movements
Lyrics to music should be appropriate and you are welcome to also use instrumental music. You will be asked to share this dance with Mrs. Tarlton.
What do I wear for the audition and video submission?
Fitted Attire such as fitted tanks or leotards and fitted bottoms such as leggings, tights, fitted pants that cover the knee and allow for free range of movement.
only jewelry allowed is studs and hair should be completely up and out of your face and off of neck.
Dancers can dance barefoot or wear dance shoes such as jazz shoes, ballet shoes or dance footies.
No food or gum while dancing
What will I have to do during the audition?
Self warm up & perform the 30 to 45 second solo that you choreographed
Learn a 30 second modern/contemporary combo OR jazz/hip hop combo
You also be asked to execute some of the following ballet, jazz & modern based techniques:
pliés, tendus, dégagés, grand battements, pirouettes, chasses, pas de bourre, chaîné turns, pique turns, Ballet positions of the feet & arms, saut de chat and grand jété leap, leap in second, calypso, prances, triplets, drop swings, side falls, flatbacks, laterals, isolations, improvisation
Dancers that are approved for an upper level class will be asked to provide a reference from a dance teacher that has taught you for at least one year. This will not be due until after the audition. Mrs. Tarlton will provide further information after your audition.
