2025-2026 MP dance class options/description:
Be a part of the MP DANCE FAMILY! Beginning classes do not require an audition. Click here if you are interested in auditioning for Intermediate, Proficient, Advanced/IB Dance Dance). Dancers that were enrolled in 2024-2025 MP Dance Class should contact Mrs. Tarlton yasmiino.tarlton@cms.k12.nc.us about level placement.
BEGINNING DANCE
*Learn beginning dance technique, terminology and history from a variety of dance genres such as jazz, hip hop, ballet, modern, African, Latin and more.
*Explore the role of dancer and choreographer in the classroom setting.
*audition based opportunity to perform in the evening Spring Dance Concert ( 5/14/26)
INTERMEDIATE DANCE
*Learn intermediate dance technique, terminology and history from a variety of dance genres such as jazz, hip hop, ballet, modern, African, Latin and more.
*Explore the role of dancer and choreographer in the classroom setting with opportunities to perform student choreographed small group pieces in the Spring Dance Concert (5/14/26)
*Perform class piece(s) in the evening Winter Dance Concert (12/11/25) & the Spring Dance Concert (5/14/26)
*Fieldtrips to see local dance performances.
DANCE COMPANY CLASSES (Proficient & Advanced/IB Dance students)
*note IB dance is a 2 year course & students must be enrolled junior & senior year.
*Learn upper level dance technique and dance history with a stronger focus on collaborating, creating and performing jazz, modern, lyrical/contemporary, hip hop, African, Latin & more.
*Explore the role of dancer & choreographer in the classroom with opportunities to perform student choreographed small group pieces in the evening Winter Dance Concert (12/11/26) & Spring Dance Concert (5/14/26). Advanced & IB dance students have more choreography & performance opportunities as well as solo/duet work.
*Perform class pieces in the evening Performing Arts Showcase (10/9/25)), Winter Dance Concert (12/11/25) & Spring Dance Concert (5/14/25)
*Fieldtrips to see local dance performances & opportunities to participate in local events such as Charlotte Ballet's MS & HS Dance Festival.
*Perform in on and off campus events during the regular school day and some after school. Some of these events include International Day in the Spring, school assembly, middle & elementary school visits, guest performance at other performing arts concerts and select advanced students may be selected to compete in the North Carolina Scholastic Dance Festival Competition which is usually on a Saturday in Early Februay.
*All rehearsals are done during class time and the dates of the handful of after school performances throughout the year will be provided at the beginning of the school year or at least 2 months in advance.
*Dancers in these classes will serve as leaders for the MP dance program.
