INTRODUCTION:
- Your introduction should include, but is not limited to:
- Include discussion of the structure/nature of the plasma membrane. Relate structure to function. Include a labeled diagram of the PM.
- Discuss the types of Passive transport: diffusion, osmosis, facilitated diffusion. Discuss active transport. With each type of transport, give an example in a cell that shows why each type is important. Use the neuron and muscle cell where it's possible since we will be studying these.
- Discuss water potential and relate to the lab. You will be doing water potential calculations as part of your data analysis so please introduce that here.
- Prediction: dialysis tubing. Predict which way the water will move with reasoning. Consider: water potential of solutions, nature of solute, nature of the semi-permeable dialysis tubing.
- DATA: all data must be included.
- DATA Analysis/conclusion: Should include, but is not limited to:
Graph % mass change of potato cores. In your conclusion include the molarity of the potato cells with an explanation of how you know this. Use water potential values ( that you calculate) to explain
Discussion of dialysis tubing data. Do your data support your predictions? Explain the semi-permeable nature of the dialysis tubing and how this relates to osmosis and mass change. Use water potential values to explain osmosis. I am looking for logical explanations.
Osmosis in plant cells: describe the differences in the cells, compare to the control. Use water potential to explain . Explain what is happening to the cellular structures as your way of explaining why the cells in the solutions look different from the control
