Students in 8th Grade are required to complete a Community Service with the estimated time of 20 hours:
20 hours includes research, journal entries, supervisor meetings, and a tri-fold board display
Ideas: Homeless Shelter, Animal Shelter, Retirement Community, Church Volunteer Event, Neighborhood/Beautification Clean Up, School Bulletin Boards, School Mural,
Environmental and sustainability
Start a community recycling program or a school-wide campaign to reduce waste.
Organize a clean-up event for a local park, beach, or forest.
Create a community garden at your school or in a local neighborhood.
Launch a "seed bomb" project to beautify a neglected area.
Conduct research on a local environmental issue, like invasive species, and present your findings to a relevant group.
Social and community support
Volunteer at an elderly home, or organize events to connect with seniors.
Start a community tutoring program for younger students in subjects you excel at.
Organize a food drive to collect and distribute non-perishable food items to local food banks.
Help out at an animal shelter, or run an awareness campaign for animal welfare.
Partner with a local NGO to design posters or create other materials for their cause.
Creative and performance-based
Organize a cultural festival that features art, dance, and service opportunities.
Host a local art exhibition, or create art to donate to a hospital or community center.
Start a theatre production with proceeds going to a charity, or organize a talent show.
Create a documentary about a local community issue and organize a screening.
Organize a flash mob or a dance performance.
Health and well-being
Create and distribute health-related informational materials, or organize workshops on topics like fitness and nutrition.
Start a running club that also includes trail clean-ups.
Conduct a health fair with activities and educational sessions.
Design and execute an art therapy program for patients at a local hospital.
Teach a First Aid workshop for your peers or community members.
Students will be assigned a staff supervisor (this individual will be your mentor, they will provide feedback, and ideas, and grade the 10 Journal Entries). Students will submit a google form on September 13th with their choice for a supervisor - their advisor will be announced on September 27th
If a Supervisor is not chosen by the date above, one will be chosen for you

Due Dates - there are journal entries due throughout the year (listed below) and they will meet with their supervisor during the school day on the days listed to go over that section of the project.

FAQs
When is the Community Project Due? There are going to be due dates throughout the year for student to stay on track with thier project
When is the actual Showcase? The 2025 Showcase will be March 27, 2026 from 9:30am - 11am
How does my child know about this project? Information regarding this project will come out at the beginning of the year. It will be posted on this page underneath the FAQs section once the students have been presented the information during school.
How does my child know who his/her supervisor is? They will find out their supervisor on Sept 27th
Does my child have to work alone on this project? Students may work alone, with a partner, or with two other teammates. No more than 3 students should be working together on this project. Students will choose their teammates in September for this project.
What if we have a plan, but we change our mind and want to do something else? Communication is Key. To change a topic students must get approval from their Community Project Supervisor. Note it may be double the work to change the plan, but it is also a good exercise to recognize that a plan needs to change and to manage the execution of the new plan/idea.
What happens if my supervisor does not respond to my emails and I do not have the supervisor as a teacher this year? If a student is having difficulty communicating with the supervisor please reach out to Mrs. Ori as soon as possible.
Does my community project have to be done at school? No, the community project should be completed in a broader community (with adult supervision) . The project could be done completely in the student's neighborhood, place of worship, or with an organization that does not include exclusively Randolph student.
What if I can't think of a project idea? Adults are here to help you. Please reach out to Ms. Ori with ideas. We have lots of needs at Randolph that students could tap into.
