J.M. Alexander is a magnet with a neighborhood attendance boundary. All scholars (magnet and non-magnet) participate in IB MYP learning experiences. Children who went through the CMS magnet lottery to receive a magnet seat are required to:

• Be on grade-level in reading the year they enter the program.

• Meet the CMS-established service requirements for students in IB programs.

• Take a world language course (French or Spanish) every year.

• Take an arts elective (dance, chorus, band, orchestra, visual art, or drama) and a technology elective.

In order to continue in the program, children must pass their world language course each year and complete the required service.
