At all IB MYP schools, scholars' progress is regularly assessed with IB assessment tasks. These tasks are open-ended assignments related to our IB units.
IB assessments are not evaluated using traditional letter grades or using percentages. Rather, IB assessments are evaluated using rubrics aligned to the IB objectives for each subject. These rubrics help us determine achievement levels that indicate what learners are able to do and also how they can improve.
There are four IB assessment rubrics for each subject: A, B, C and D. The highest level of achievement on each rubric is an 8.
Each criterion is evaluated once a semester using the IB rubrics.
Scholars' IB grades are based on their performance as measured by the IB MYP assessment rubrics.
IB grades range from 1 - 7 and are determined using the totals from the 4 rubrics (the highest possible total is 32).
This chart shows the grade boundaries based on criteria totals and describes the meaning of each grade.
These IB grades are separate from the grades on students’ CMS report cards and reflect performance measured by IB standards, not NC standards.
JMA shares scholars’ IB assessment results in two ways. First, students’ performance on individual IB assessment tasks are reported via PowerSchool, where parents can see how the 1-8 levels are converted into percentages for the NC grading system. Second, IB grades are shared via IB report cards that are sent home twice a year.
