Too often, it is difficult to know what information we can trust, particularly for a rapidly developing news story. Here are some tools that can help you navigate the deluge of information and locate sources that are credible and offer balanced coverage.
What I love about NLP is that their primary focus is on educating news consumers. There are quizzes, tips, and tools. NLP also runs Checkology which is a whole information literacy curriculum I use in my Help Desk class.
Ad Fontes Media can look overwhelming at first, but search for your favorite news source and see where it falls on the matrix. Your best sources of news are going to be at the top center.
AllSides is a news aggregator. They don't publish their own news but you can see how headlines on the same story vary from source to source. Each article shows a meter that lets you know if the source is left leaning, right leaning, or centrist in its overall coverage.
Like AllSides, Ground News is a news aggregator. One feature I like is the "Blindspot" which tells you what news stories you are not going to see covered much (or at all) if you have a politically-leaning media bubble that you stay in.
