North Carolina Battle of the Books is a reading program in which schools compete against each other, quiz-bowl style, answering questions about the sixteen selected books. Questions are always formatted in a way that prompts the student to answer with the title and author of the book. For example, "in which book does a character befriend a spider?" Contestants get 2 points for the correct title and an additional point for identifying the author correctly.
We have a lot of fun discussing the books at our meetings and preparing for competition. Do you have to read all of the books? No! It helps if every member of the team reads 3-4 books, but some people do choose to read all sixteen.
Want to join next year? Reach out to let Ms. Lilley know and start reading some of the books over the summer.
Our first ever BOB team competed on March 15, 2024 and came in 2nd place out of four schools!
