My name is Erin Slusher and I am a CTE Teacher at Mallard Creek High School. I am currently teaching Marketing Applications and Sports & Entertainment Marketing II. I absolutely love teaching, however it is not my first career. As a matter of fact, it's not even my second! After over 20 years in the work force, I decided to pursue this wonderful career where I am able to utilize and teach the next generation the skills I have learned and used over the years.
I am originally from Lexington, KY. I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Communication. As a side note, I am a very proud member of the Big Blue Nation! Upon graduating from college, I took a job selling advertising for local newspapers throughout the states of Kentucky, West Virginia, and Indiana. I greatly enjoyed this job, but soon had an opportunity to pursue a childhood dream of becoming a Flight Attendant. Within a matter of weeks I had accepted a job with US Airways and moved to Charlotte where I began this new and exciting career. For the next 11 years I traveled the US and Europe all while gaining skills that I would one day be able to teach my students.
My husband, John and I were married in 2005 and we have two boys, John (14) and Luke (8). In 2009 I decided to leave the airline industry and work full time for my husband's marketing and apparel company. It was during these 10 years of helping him run his business where the bulk of my experience was gained. I did a little bit of everything from sales to managing customer relations, to bookkeeping including basic accounting responsibilities (payroll, taxes, AP & AR), to managing multiple online stores. Much of our business was in the racing world and I was able to work hands on with many sports marketing projects. I use the experience I gained in this career in the classroom every single day. There is little to nothing that I teach that I haven't done in the business world. This is one of many reasons why I love my career as a teacher!
My family and I live in the Lake Norman area with our 3 year old Yellow Lab, Mick. One of my favorite things to do is watch my boys play sports. We spend a lot of time between the basketball gym and the baseball field. I love every minute of it! I also love to be on the lake, run, walk, read, and snow ski when I get the chance. I love to be outside and will take the heat over the cold any day (unless I get to go skiing). I love horses, dogs, chocolate, lilies, most types of music, spending time with my family, and my students! I look forward to getting to know you this semester!
