Summer Symphony

Students learned about Wassily Kandinsky and his innovative art style, which came to be known as abstract expressionism. Students began by listing memories from their summer and the feelings associated with each memory. Then they identified the shape, line, and color that best represented that moment. Using this list, students completed practice sketches, thinking about how size and position of lines and shapes can be used to emphasize one memory over another. While their final pieces may look random, they are the result of much thought and planning.
