In these lessons, students learned about background, middle ground, and foreground and how artists use them to create depth. For these spooky scenes, students first drew the house and hill in the middle ground, and the moon in the background, all with oil pastels. For the remainder of the background, they used watercolors to paint a dark and ominous sky. The final touch was to glue photos of their scared (or sometimes amused) faces in the foreground.
