Unit One - Family Newsletter
This year we will continue teaching with the EL Curriculum in Literacy class. There are 4 modules that will be our units of study this year. Within each module there are assigned readings as well as writing tasks. There is also a final performance task (project) to conclude each module.
The 4 Modules include:
Stories of Human Rights
Biodiversity in the Rainforest
Athlete Leaders of Social Change
The Impact of Natural Disasters
Each module will be taught over a 9 week period.
Module 1
Module 1
We will begin this year with a unit that covers stories of Human Rights.
Guiding Questions:
What are human rights, and how can they be threatened?
How can we use writing to raise awareness of human rights?
Standards Addressed:
Quoting accurately when explaining what the text says
Determining Main Ideas and Themes based on text evidence
Determine the meaning of academic and domain specific vocabulary words and phrases
Build background knowledge by closely reading a variety of resources and texts
Write narratives to develop clear sequencing and express thoughts and feelings of main characters
We are really excited to start this with our students and can't wait to see what they produce and how they grow throughout each unit this school year!
