Governor's School is a 4-week summer, residential enrichment program for high achieving juniors and some sophomores. Students are nominated by school districts across NC for specific academic areas. HOST CAMPUSES (Governor’s School East is hosted by Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, Governor’s School West is hosted by Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC).
The areas students can be nominated for are: Math, English, Natural Science, Social Science, Spanish, Choral music, Instrumental music, Theatre, Dance, and Art. Note: Sophomores are ONLY eligible to apply for Choral Music, Instrumental Music, and Dance.
TUITION AND FEES
There is a tuition cost of $600 per student. Districts and schools are responsible for sending payment for this tuition; however, they have flexibility on how they choose to collect tuition funds. Schools and districts will inform students and families about tuition processes after selection letters are distributed.
NCDPI Student Eligibility Requirements:
Be a North Carolina resident,
Exchange students are not eligible.
Students attending a NC federal high school (ie Lejeune High School), regardless of residency, are eligible to apply if they meet the other eligibility requirements.
Attend a North Carolina public or non-public school, and
Be enrolled in Grade 11 at the time of nomination. Exceptions are made to allow for students in tenth and eleventh grades to apply for the disciplines of Dance, Choral Music, and Instrumental Music.
Students applying in Spanish must have completed at least three high school Spanish courses prior to attending GS or be a fluent or native Spanish speaker.

A. Recommender downloads electronic recommendation form from Governor’s School 2026 website: www.ncgovschool.org
B. Family members may not submit recommendation
C. Only two recommendation forms will be accepted
D. At least one recommendation from HS teacher, in discipline area
E. The second recommendation from another teacher, school counselor, school administrator, out of school instructor, community leader, or coach.
Deadline to Appy is October 13, 2025 (application and recommendation letters must be uploaded by this date).
