Fourth quarter was another busy quarter. We got to take our in school field trip with Diamond Dell and the kids loved it. They were able to go into a mobile cave and mine for gems. Afterwards, we learned about the different gems we found and how they help the Earth and what they could be used for. We celebrated Earth Day by taking a nature walk, completing a scavenger hunt, and noticing the different things we see in nature. We learned about how to take care of the Earth and why it was important. We finished our bird unit learning about how we can be Bird Savers and help take care of the birds and why birds are important to people and nature. We also learned about 2-D and 3-D shapes and the students were able to create their own 3-D shapes by using other shapes. We ended our school year with doing a different fun activity each day, art day, playdough day, game day, Joke day, chalk and bubble day and movie day.
We had a great fourth quarter! In math, we explored a variety of measurement through project-based learning opportunities. We continued to deepen our problem solving skills working with multiple step word problems. To review for the EOG, students participated in collaborative games and review projects including standards from the whole year. In ELA, students had their last two book clubs: The Tale of Despereaux and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We also used our deductive reasoning skills best mystery-solving skills to complete activities accompanying the text, The Eleventh Hour. Students completed an end of the year scrapbook filled with their favorite memories. Students also had an opportunity to teach each other about a passion of theirs in a research project called "Teach the Teacher". In social studies, students completed a brochure to advertize a dream vacation to their families. Scholars worked so hard this year and have grown so much! Best of luck in fourth grade, everyone!!
The fourth quarter was filled with many fun learning opportunities! In math, we continued Single-Subject Acceleration. This is math program designed to meet the needs of highly advanced math students. The program focuses on sixth-grade standards and also provides enrichment opportunities to take this middle school material even deeper. We finished all of our Math Olympiad competitions for the year. This is a fun competition that exposes students to higher level problem solving and critical thinking. In reading we have been focused on EOG review and exposing students to higher level texts and questions. In addition, we have done Jacob's Ladder and other enriching reading lessons with our magnet coordinator, Mrs. Beaube. In science, we learn about genetics and Punnett Squares as well as a lot of EOG review. Students have learned more about what it is like to be a scientist and to do their own scientific research to find answers to their problems. It has been an amazing year, and the students have truly learned and grown so much!
