5th Grade SSA

For selected students performing in the top 5 % on fall iReady assessments. Invitations were sent out on Sunday, September 20th via Parent Square to students who qualify.

5th grade SSA Coming September 22nd.

Our SSA (Single-Subject Acceleration) group within fifth grade math AIG meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:30-11:00 am. During this time, they work through accelerated math designed to:

enrich, extend and deepen grade level standards
provide exposure to advanced content
cultivate growth and prepare them for success in advanced coursework at the secondary level

Some SSA children may have already participated in SSA last year, while others may be newly invited to do so. Participation last year does not guarantee participation this year.

During that time we will work our way through the following 14 progression topics.

Each progression comes with suggested pacing, instructional video help, practice problems, enrichment activities, and one-on-one conferring with Mrs. Blackmon. Eventually, students learn to pace themselves through the program and are given agency over how quickly they move through the progressions (as long as Mrs. Blackmon is seeing consistency, accuracy, and understanding demonstrated in work samples and student conferences).

We also look for SSA students to exhibit the following behaviors:

While they may not have consistently demonstrated ALL of these behaviors YET, our goal is to help develop them through out the year with guidance and support from Mrs. Blackmon.
