Hello Olde Providence Families!
My name is Amy McHugh and this is my second year at Olde Providence teaching third grade ELA and my twelfth year in the classroom. My husband Mark and I have two sons, James and Jeffrey, who attend Olde Providence. James is in fourth grade and Jeffrey is in first grade. The Olde Providence community is a special place, and I am proud to be a part of it as both an educator and a parent! We also just added an adorable golden retriever puppy, Beacon, to our family!
Growing up my dad was a fighter pilot in the Air Force so we moved all over, but I call Williamsburg, Virginia my home. I moved to Charlotte in 2007 after graduating from the University of Virginia with my Master of Teaching degree in Elementary Education. I taught first and second grade in CMS for eleven years at Oakdale and Dilworth Elementary Schools. After the birth of my youngest, Jeffrey, I decided that time was moving too fast and took some time off from teaching to focus on our family. While out of the classroom I continued to stay involved in CMS serving as PTO president, substitute teaching, and working part time as a Title I tutor supporting third grade and fifth grade students.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, running, reading (including children’s books!), watching birds, baking, and shopping. When I have time, I also enjoy making jewelry and hand lettering our Christmas card envelopes.
Third grade is an important year in your child’s development, and I’m looking forward to a great school year! I can’t wait to get to know you and your child as we partner together to make this a successful year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns through parent square or email amyl.mchugh@cms.k12.nc.us.
