The term Intellectual property (IP) is used frequently in this day and age. However, only a modicum of it is appreciated. To a layman, it remains as an obscure legal concept which has no relevance to his everyday life. But in the era of developing science and technology, Intellectual property and Intellectual Property rights have great economic and social relevance.
Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions, literary and artistic works, symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce. It is an intangible creation of the human mind, usually expressed or translated into a tangible form that is assigned certain rights of property.
Intellectual property rights (IPR) give the creator an exclusive right over the use of his/her creations for a certain period of time.
