CMR University, Bengaluru is a private university in the state of Karnataka, established and governed by the CMR University Act-2013. CMR University aims to promote and undertake the advancement of university education in technical, health, management, life sciences and other allied sectors of higher and professional education.

CMR University School of Legal Studies aspires to be recognized as a principal Centre of excellence in law. Striving to attract and facilitate the foray of enterprising, smart, and intelligent young individuals into the legal profession, is a conscious effort and a focal point in CMRU. The School of Legal Studies seeks to emphasize on the integration of enterprising initiatives and creative programmes in the curricular activity, transcending conventional academic orientation so as to inculcate within each of its student, a vibrant and more real outlook towards their life and career. Each student in the School of Legal Studies is trained to become a complete professional and a highly-accomplished citizen.
Established in 2003, under the name and style of CMR University School of Legal Studies, the institution has been actively engaged in shaping young legal professionals since 14 years. For the past six consecutive years, CMR School of Legal Studies has been ranked amongst the top law colleges in India by leading national magazines. Our students have been highly successful in winning several national level moot court competitions, debate competitions and model parliament competitions, besides securing the top ranks in the Karnataka State Law University examinations.
Having made the transition from being affiliated to Karnataka State Law University to being a constituent department under CMR University, we hope not only to emulate our past deeds, but to progress further and reach greater heights in our eternal quest for perfection.

The Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST ) was established in 1975 and is responsible for the development of the quality of life of the people of the state, especially in rural areas.
It is one of the first State Science & Technology Councils set up in the country. KSCST is an autonomous S&T organization under Department of Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka.
During the last four decades, KSCST has been pro-actively engaging itself to identify, propose and implement S&T based solutions to locale specific needs/problems in the broad areas of Water, Education, Energy, Ecology and Environment, Waste management and Infrastructure. In co-operation with the Indian Institute of Science and several other premier R&D institutions, KSCST executes many projects and programmes aimed at improving socio-economic conditions of the people of the state.
Over the years, a number of technologies have been generated, from research and demonstration phase, to the implementation and operational phase. KSCST provides support to the Central and State Governments, in formulation of S&T based policies, scientific surveys, project implementation, evaluation, co-ordination & monitoring, organization of scientific meets and awareness campaigns. The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India advocated KSCST as a model to all the states.

Importance of IP: Intellectual property rights (IPR) are legal rights aimed at protecting the creations of the intellect, such as inventions, appearance of products, literary, artistic and scientific works, signs etc.
In the modern era, Intellectual property rights plays a significant role on trade of every nation. In this digitized world, there stands a higher risk of creative ideas getting stolen without the consent of the author. The need for strong IP laws gives an overall contribution in the economy of the respective state. IPR is one of the sources of security for intangible properties which are still open to the public and which can be quickly replicated by anyone.
Safeguarding these property rights fosters economic growth, provides incentives for technological innovation, and attracts investment that will create new jobs and opportunities for all their citizens.
OVERVIEW OF THE IP CELL:
The CMRU KSCST IP Cell is the focus of Intellectual Property research at the CMRU-SOLS. The IP Cell was established in the year 2019 with the purpose to create awareness and offer assistance to academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and innovators to identify, protect and manage Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) effectively.
The IP Cell actively involves in educating the importance of IPR for various communities. Since its inception, it has been engaged in intensive and extensive research on important contemporary issues of Intellectual Property through conducting series of activities.
It has always taken numerous initiatives towards fostering discussion and capacity-building. It has conducted workshops, conferences, and talks focusing on areas like importance of IP in the contemporary world, Recent trends under the Patent law, IPR - towards Global Impact and so on.
Our Cell has invited renowned scholars- and other relevant stakeholders such as prominent professionals and industry specialists- from across the nation in the capacity of resource persons for its events. Moreover, these events have seen enthusiastic participation from scholars and professionals from across different institutions. The ‘Events’ section of the IP Cell website offers a detailed account of concluded, ongoing, and upcoming efforts in this regard.
There are many more initiatives in the pipeline. IP Cell intends to coordinate with various IP firms to conduct programs to create awareness on Intellectual Property Rights and Certificate Courses (conducting number of certificate courses on IPR in collaboration with different organizations) and to function as the nodal Centre to assist Industries, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs, Educational and Research Institutions for IPR related matters.
