Dear Parents/Guardians,     

Band is a group instruction class on all woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. The following is a description of band expectations:

1. Band is a yearlong class. However, with our schedule at MCMS, band students will also be taking other related arts classes throughout the school year.

2. Band requirements:

·  Class participation - having music and instrument in class each day.

·  Playing tests - individual and group performance

·  Practice is essential to success in band. Students should practice approximately 100 minutes per week.

·  Participation in two night concerts is expected. Students who do not attend should provide a doctor’s excuse for illness or letter from a parent to explain an emergency. Students will also have other opportunities to perform at events.

4. Instruments:

·  Band students need their own instruments.

·  Rental and purchase options will be giving in the fall. Please, do not buy or rent instruments until I have made recommendations on the basis of your child’s interest and ability.

PARENTS, PLEASE KNOW THAT THERE ARE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN JOINING BAND.
