Name Change * It is important that your TN license and PowerSchool match the name on your Social Security Card.
Log into TNCompass
Select "My Educator Profile" in the Application Quick Links section.
Select "Transactions" and select "Name Change" to start a new transaction.
Read the related information, complete the name change form, and add appropriate attachments.
Review for accuracy, read submission confirmation and submit.
Select "Personal Affirmation" in the Submission Notes section, and Complete the Name Change Transaction- Personal Affirmation.
Confirm the accuracy of the submission and submit.
Confirm personal affirmation and click submit again
The following forms of legal documentation will be accepted for name changes:
U.S. issued driver's license
U.S. issued passport
U.S. issued social security card *(recommended to ensure names match)
or U.S. issued official court documents (e.g. marriage license, divorce decree, or other official court documents)
*If an educator would like to change a middle name to a maiden name, it must appear that way on the legal documentation.
Address Change
Log into TNCompass
Select "Edit Account Information".
Edit the appropriate information.
Confirm accuracy and click "Save" in the upper right-hand corner.
Email Change (*List two separate emails on account)
Log into TNCompass
Select "Account Information"
Edit the appropriate information.
To Change the Primary Email, select the "Edit" button to the right. Your primary email can be any email you choose.
To Change the Account Email (at the bottom), select the "change username/email" next to the account email. *Please note the Account Email listed should be your CMCSS email.
Confirm accuracy and click "Save" in the upper right-hand corner.
Adding a Degree
Make sure the department has official transcripts on file.
The transcript must be submitted by the institution to Educator.Licensure@tn.gov through an electronic clearinghouse (preferred method) or mailed to 710 James Robertson Parkway, 9th floor, Nashville, TN 37243. Mailed transcripts will take additional time to be imported into TNCompass.
Once transcripts have been received and added to the TNCompass profile, you can submit your transaction.
Update your TNCompass account with your new degree.
Fill out the district's "Salary Change Based on Education Level" form (CER-F025). The link is provided below.
Send the completed form with your official transcripts to your Certified Employment Representative.
Be sure your transcripts state your completion date.
If you are submitting a change for a Master+30 degree, be sure your transcripts show your final grade for all credit hours to be counted.
4. The change request will be entered and you will receive a confirmation email when it is processed.
Associated Forms and Policies:
An educator who holds a valid Tennessee educator license may add additional endorsements or teaching areas to the license.
Must complete the required Praxis exam(s) for the new endorsement and/or complete the required coursework dependent on which endorsement an educator holds and the endorsement that educator is seeking.
Educators completing a preparation program for an endorsement in a state other than Tennessee may upload the Verification of Out-of-State Additional Endorsement form in TNCompass.
A transaction in TNCompass will need to be submitted to add an endorsement.
Make sure to review the District & School Endorsement Flexibility document for additional information.
*There are endorsements which may only be obtained by meeting state minimum requirements. Some of these endorsements are only available as an additional endorsement to an existing teaching license and others require prerequisites (e.g. certain degree, experience, etc.).

It is likely that you will have to let your license expire and then immediately reapply for your license.
Verify the endorsement you will receive.
In some cases, endorsements have been retired or changed.
Verify your Praxis.
If your previous Praxis exams are more than 5 years old or you did not take Praxis to obtain your initial license, you will likely be required to take Praxis Exams.
If you are required to take Praxis, please take them as soon as possible.

Apply for your license as soon as possible!
Have everything to go and apply for your license in TNCompass as soon as it expires on 9/1.
Yes! Advancing is not required; teachers can now continuously renew their practitioner license as long as they meet the renewal requirements.

Be sure to upload your out-of-state experience verifications to your TNCompass account if you want to use previous teaching experience.
