Crete-Monee High School students must complete the following District 201U Board of Education graduation requirements and earn a minimum total of 22 credits in order to meet statewide graduation requirements and earn an CMHS high school diploma.
In general, .5 credits are given for one semester of work in one course, earning one credit for the year. CMHS students are expected to take 6.5 credits each school year. According to CM-201u school board of education policy students are to be enrolled in school full-time through senior year. Our district does not have early release for seniors. The administration cannot waive any graduation requirements other than exceptions granted by state law.
College entrance requirements differ greatly and often exceed high school graduation requirements. For a complete explanation of requirements, students should contact their counselor.
English- 4 credits
Math- 3 credits (Including one credit in Algebra I and one credit in Geometry)
Science- 2 credits
Social Sciences -2 credits (Including US History)
Physical Education -3.5 credits (Includes .25 credits of Drivers Education)

ENGLISH —Four (4) credits are required.
MATH —Three (3) credits are required. Must include 1 credit of Algebra and 1 credit of Geometry.
Algebra and Geometry course taken in middle school count toward math credits required for graduation.
SCIENCE —Two (2) credits are required (One credit in a lab science and one credit in a physical science are required).
SOCIAL SCIENCES —Two (2) Social Sciences credits are required, which must include US History. Student must have consumer econ and civics content, a well as take and
pass the US/IL Constitution test.
PHYSICAL & WELLNESS EDUCATION — Students must complete 3.25credits in Physical Education, .25 credits of Drivers Education, and .5 credits of Health.
*Students can receive the following PE waivers: Sports, Show Choir, Academic, Band, NJROTC, and Medical.
FINE ARTS/CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION/FOREIGN LANGUAGE — All students must fulfill a total of two (2) credits of Fine Arts, Career & Technical Education (CTE),
or Foreign Language.
*At this time foreign language is NOT a graduation requirement.
ELECTIVES — A minimum of five (5) elective credits are needed for graduation. Elective courses may be chosen from any subject.
CONSUMER EDUCATION and CIVICS — Illinois state law requires students to be taught consumer economics and civics content in order to graduate. Courses that fulfill the Consumer Education and Civics requirement are Experiences in Social Studies, AP US Government and Politics (Civics), AP Economics (Consumer Econ), Small Business Management (Consumer Econ), Economics/Government, Personal Finance, Consumer Economics, Civics. These courses allow students to earn elective credit in the appropriate department while meeting the Consumer Education and Civics requirement.
CONSTITUTION TEST — Students must take and pass the US/IL Constitution test. (Administered in the following classes Experiences in Social Studies, AP US Government and Politics, or Semester 2 of Economics/Government.
STATE SPONSORED ACT — Students must take the state-administered school day ACT to earn an Illinois high school diploma. This exam is given April of junior year.
FAFSA COMPLETION - Illinois requires all public high school seniors to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or, if applicable, the Alternate Application for Illinois Financial Aid as a graduation requirement (Illinois School Code 105 ILCS 5/22-87, Sec. 22-87).
Opt Out. A parent/guardian may choose to opt a child out of this graduation requirement.
To opt out, fill out the official online FAFSA Non-participation form from ISAC.
Students who are at least 18 years of age or legally emancipated may complete the opt out process themselves.

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS- All students are required to complete 28 hours of community service in order to graduate.
