Places are limited! We work on first in first served policy with priority going to Year 13 students.
Students are only able to attend one STAR course per year (not including Defensive Driving).
When completing the online application form, it is a good idea to put in a second choice in case you miss out on your first choice.
Where demand exceeds places available a selection process will take place. Students will be notified via their student email.
If selected, students will receive an acceptance email (that outlines expectations) and a permission form to be signed by a parent/caregiver. Final selection is subject to Dean Approval.
Yes, some STAR courses offer Unit Standards, which are specific skills and knowledge recognized by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
You might see courses offering 3, 4, 7, 8, or around 10 credits, depending on the specific unit standard and duration of the course.
Please note: We do not remove or withhold AS or US results as we are obliged to report all results to NZQA.
· Unit Standard entries are not used by Rangitoto College when calculating our Dux or Top Scholars for Years 11 & 12.
· The top 80 Level 3 credits gained from University Approved subjects are the only ones used for the calculation of Dux and Top Scholars
· Universities (International and Domestic) do not take into consideration any credits gained from Unit Standard credits when calculating a GPA or rank score.
It is a privilege to attend a STAR course. The school has high expectations of student behaviour and students are to represent themselves and Rangitoto College in a mature and responsible manner.
If you accept a place on the course, you are making a commitment to attend. If you withdraw without good reason, or fail to attend, then your parent/guardian may be charged the full course fee.
