Have a few questions, queries or concerns about your son or daughter choosing Gateway or Pathways to Employment as a subject? We're here to help. See below for some myth de-busting answers.
My child will fall behind when they are out of school on work experience
NOT TRUE!
Every Gateway/Pathways student is closely monitored by their Gateway/Pathways teacher. Assistance is given with re-arranging assessments if required plus time given in Gateway/Pathways class to catch up on other subjects if needed.
My child won’t be learning when they are missing out on school
NOT TRUE!
Out of the classroom experiences allow students to gain a huge amount of learning. These days employers are asking for employees with essential employability skills – being on work experience helps students to develop these skills and makes them more attractive to employers looking for staff.
Gateway/Pathways is only for the less academically able students
NOT TRUE!
Being work-ready and in a position to make informed choices about future careers is SMART.
University is not the only option for smart kids, Gateway/Pathways will open students’ eyes to the many possibilities including earn-while-you-learn and tertiary/University options.
Gateway/Pathways is only for students wanting to go in to the trade industries
NOT TRUE!
Some students want to go in to an apprenticeship, others on to tertiary education and others straight in to a job. We support students with whatever career and next steps they are passionate about.
We do have a number of students wanting to go in to the trades, however we also have many students interested in other careers such as the travel industry, early childhood education, sport & recreation, teaching, computer programming, nursing, media and more!
