OUR SCHEDULE

MORNING MEETING/CLOSING CIRCLE

Morning Meetings give us a chance to build our community. Meetings will consist of greeting one another, sharing news with each other, and a fun activity to get our day started as a group of learners.

Closing Circle closes out our day by adding in a piece of community reflection that focuses on our learning, growth, and behavior. This is a time to reflect on what is going well, what we can do better, and goals for the following day/week.

INTERACTIVE READ ALOUD

Interactive read-aloud is a whole-group instructional context where students will think about, talk about, and respond to text that has been purposefully selected by the teacher. Both readers and listeners actively process the language, ideas, and meaning of the text together.

Reading Workshop

During Reading Workshop, students will work independently on a check list of activities while I call small Guided Reading groups to meet with me. Students will build stamina during independent reading time, work on reading responses, i-Ready reading lessons, word work, and a variety of other options, including possible enrichment opportunities and project-based learning linked to peer interactions.

WRITing WORKSHOP

During Writing Workshop, students will complete a variety of writing pieces including opinion, informative, and narrative writing styles. Your child will learn strategies for writing, how to use graphic organizers to plan out their pieces, the writing process, and meet with a teacher to support editing/conferencing about their writing throughout the year.  There will be opportunities for publishing writing and hosting celebrations of our work as a class community.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES

Science and Social Studies units will rotate every 2-4 weeks, meaning we will complete an entire unit of study within science before moving on to social studies. Assessments will take place at the end of each unit and prior notice will be given. I fully believe in hands-on investigations and will be eager to bring these units of study to life in our classroom.

MATH

During math, students will complete one Envision lesson every day, which include whole class and independent practice. These lessons will be supplemented and supported with enrichment activities/projects, including technology and small group teacher support. Students will work on mastering their multiplication facts this year.

SPELLING/CURSIVE/KEYBOARDING

The Developmental Spelling Assessment (DSA) is used to determine your child’s developmental spelling stage. Using the assessment data, students will have individual spelling lists, based upon their particular needs, which will come home weekly.

Students will be learning to write in cursive this year!

Your child will also be learning keyboarding skills. We will have the use of chromebooks daily.

Intervention + Enrichment

During this time, students will engage in intervention and enrichment. This will be a time where no new instruction is occurring in the classroom, which is a very unique and exciting time to dig into areas where students can be supported or stretched! Power Readers may leave during this time, students may work on enrichment projects and activities, and math and reading instruction will be reinforced. This chunk of time will change daily as student needs change.
