Welcome!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the beginning of your child’s grade 1 school year in French Immersion.  I hope that your child will enjoy their experience in grade 1.  I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your child.  You will find that the components and expectations in Grade 1 are slightly different from Kindergarten.  It may take your child a few days or maybe a few weeks to settle in.  You may also notice that they are tired at the end of the day.  You can help with this by ensuring your child gets a good night's sleep on a daily basis. 

Please ensure that your child’s belongings are all labeled with their name. Also be sure to include an extra bag of clothing and underwear in your child’s bag.   Please teach your child to tie shoe laces/put on shoes and to fasten jackets on their own.  It is very helpful if your child can be as independent as possible when it comes to getting ready to go outdoors. 

We are a peanut and nut free school.  Please ensure that you check all labels on any food before sending it to school with your child.  All food must not contain any traces of peanuts or nuts and must not be produced in the same factory as peanuts or nuts.   Thank you in advance. 

The school schedule is as follows; the school doors open at 8:25, and classes will begin promptly at 8:40. Lunch is from 11:20 to 11:45 followed by lunch recess from 11:45-12:10. Afternoon recess is from 1:15-1:30 and dismissal is at 2:40.  We have no morning recess, but will still break for a snack at around 10:00am.

Everything you need to know will be posted on our class site, please take the time to go over everything under the “Parent” tab. 

“Meet the Teacher night” will take place on Wednesday, September 17th at 6:00pm.  Come and meet me in person and have a chance to see our classroom.  At this time you can ask any questions that you may have and I will provide you with a “getting to know your child” survey that you can take home and fill out. This year we are having the Welcome Family BBQ on Wednesday, September 24th at 5:00pm.

I look forward to working with you and your child this year and encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  I believe that it is very important that we work as a team to find solutions to problems, big or small, that your child may encounter throughout the year.  If you have any concerns, please contact me. I cannot help if I am not aware. I am available after school from 2:40 to 4:00pm most days.
