March 30 - April 3
How is it almost April?! It's so nice to feel spring in the air. Most days! :)
Here is a look at our week:
Fundations - We will continue with Unit 8 - r controlled vowels - /ar/and /or/. Trick words will be: world, answer, different, many, some, March.
L. Arts - Our unit on persuasive writing continues this week. This tends to be a favourite with students and there are many fantastic mentor texts to go along with it. We will be thinking about possible topics for our writing. It would be helpful to have some coversations about this at home so students come with some ideas to add to our list of possibilities. Some ideas to consider:
What subjects do you feel strongly about? ex. It is very important to recyle at home and at school.
What is something that you want or need? ex. Please can I buy a new book at Indigo? Please can we go camping this summer?
What is best? What is your preference between _______ and ______? ex. The best colour is green. The best sport to play tennis. It is better to be too hot than to be too cold.
Math - We will continue to practice 2 digit adddition with regrouping this week. I recommend students continue to review their addtion and subtraction facts regularly at home to further build speed and accuracy. Quick recall is very helpful as we move into two digit operations and problem solving questions.
Upcoming dates:
Wednesday April 1 - Spring Photos for all English classes
Friday, April 3 - Good Friday - No classes
Monday, April 6 - Easter Monday - No classes
Friday, April 10 - Professional Development Day for Staff - No classes
Note: Please send in an extra full change of clothing for your child to keep in their backpack. These have been very useful for numerous students to have in the last while. Wet clothing from playing outside at recess is common, so having a couple of extra pairs of socks and mittens in addition to an outfit is ideal, if possible.
Have a wonderful week!
March 23-27
I hope everyone had a great March Break! There were lots of smiling faces coming in this morning; students and staff excited to be back together and share stories about their vacation. Most of the stories shared were about small moments with friends and family.
