Feb. 23-27
It looks like we’re in for some stormy weather!
I wanted to reshare the Learning Websites section of my google site in case school is cancelled and some students were looking to do some educational activities tomorrow. There is no expectation to use this; I just wanted to send a reminder that it is an available option – for storm days or sick days. Please note: These sites are only available during school hours (7am-3pm, I believe)
2C - LEARNING WEBSITES 2025/26
It was a big week last week with Valentine's Day and the Olympics/Winter Wellness!
Thank you very much for your contributions to our Valentine's Day. It was so good to see all of the kindness and genuine graditude shining through as the students exchanged cards, notes and treats. Mrs. Crane, Ms. Sally and I appreciate families thinking of us too! We were feeling the love in 2C!
We had a grand time participating in our Winter Wellness activites. There were Olympics themed stations inside and orienteering and snow sculpture building outside. It was a perfect way to end our week!
Thank you for supporting Special Olympics with your donations on Jersey Day.
Pink Shirt Day - Feb. 25 - Students are welcome to wear a pink shirt (or anything pink) to school to promote kindness. We will have some in class learning activities to accompany this.
100th Day Of School - Feb. 26 - We will be celebrating 100 Days of School on Thursday, Feb. 26th. Students are welcome to dress like they are 100 years old or to bring in something that represents 100. For ex. a collection of 100 items... creativity is welcome. *Participation is voluntary. :) We will be doing some activities associated with 100 in class.
Parent Teacher interviews - The online sign up for interviews goes live on Feb. 24th. Information was sent out from the office on how to sign up on the site. **If you are signing up for more than one child/interview, please leave at least 15 minutes between inteviews to allow time for travel between classrooms. This also allows wiggle room if an interview happen to go past the scheduled time.
Note: Please send in an extra full change of clothing for your child to keep in their backpack. These have been very useful for numerous students to have in the last while. Wet clothing from playing outside at recess is common, so having a couple of extra pairs of socks and mittens in addition to an outfit is ideal, if possible.
Upcoming Dates of Note:
Feb. 24 - Parent/Teacher Interview booking system goes live at 8am
Feb. 25 - Pink Shirt Day
Feb. 26 - 100th Day of School
March 2-6 - Book Fair
March 4 - Report Cards go home
March 5 - Parent/Teacher Interviews (3:30-7pm)
March 6 - Parent Teacher Interviews (No classes for students)
March 16-20 March Break (No classes)
Have a wonderful week!
February 9-13
Happy Monday! Here's a look at our week:
Fundations: We will work on Unit 7 - open syllables and y as a vowel. Trick words for practice: eight, large, change, city, every, family.
L. arts: We will continue to work on our nonfiction unit. We have been collecting facts about polar bears and will soon move on to organizing our facts into sections and then writing our books. We continue to review nonfiction text features.
Math: We are working in two digit addition without regrouping and reviewing subtraction strategies - doubles subtraction and counting back and subtract 10. I recommend students continue to review their math facts regularly at home to further build speed and accuracy. Quick recall is very helpful as we move into two digit operations and problem solving questions.
Olympics: We will be continue to follow the Olympics over the next couple of weeks.
Valentine's Day: We will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Thursday as there are no classes on Friday, Feb. 13 (PD Day). Students are welcome to bring in Valentine’s Day cards to share with their class. I have had questions about sending treats – these are also welcome (peanut and nut free), but there is certainly no expectation.
Notes:
Please send an extra change of clothes and extra mitts/gloves and socks in case they get wet at recess times. These have come in very handy for a number of students recently.
Reminder to send cutlery in lunchboxes as the school lunch programs do no provide forks or spoons with their orders.
Have a wonderful week!
February 2-6
Welcome to February and happy Groundhog Day! The class was very interested to know if the groundhogs (yes, we consulted a few and a lobster!) would see their shadows and most were thrilled to find our that the majority did not. We can remain hopeful for an early spring. :)
