May 11-15
We are off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz! We expect to be boarding the buses just after 9:00 on Friday morning and we will be returning for lunch. There is so much excitement around this field trip; a huge thank you to the Home and School for sponsoring this opportunity for our grade two students!
Seeking End of Year Field Trip Volunteers - In order for our field trip to Shining Waters to be successful and run smoothly, we are looking for 5-6 volunteers to supervise small groups of students from our class during our time at the park. It is always a very fun day to celebrate a fantastic year together! Please see my previous email for further information and reach out if you are available to help.
Fundations - Continue working on Unit 10 - double vowel syllable - ai, -ay Trick words: great, country, away, school, thought
Writing - Persuasive writing continues.
Math - We started our unit on patterns and will continue to practice 2 digit addition and subtraction skills and word problems.
** I recommend students continue to review their addition and subtraction facts regularly at home to further build speed and accuracy. Quick recall is very helpful as we move into two digit operations and problem solving questions.
Science - We have some new class pets in our care. We welcomed ten caterpillars last week and have been watching them eat, grow and change. We are documenting the changes we see in our Butterfly Journal. Today after school, I noticed two were in a chrysalis. Our students are in for a big surprise in the morning!
Notes:
Monday May 18th is the Victoria Day holiday and there will be no classes.
The “Cool Kids Care Club” are planning our last fundraiser of the year; a COOL treat! We will have an ice cream sandwich sale with all our proceeds going to the QEH Big Day of Giving event. We will raise money to help purchase life saving equipment for our Charlottetown hospital. Here is how you can help: You can purchase your ice cream sandwich for $2 (gluten & dairy free options available) from Monday May 11th – Wednesday May 13th from your classroom teacher. The Cool Kids Care Club will be collecting money and orders on Thursday of that week. WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING SALES AFER WEDNESDAY MAY 13th. Ice cream will be delivered on Friday May 15th.
From the Office: Safe arrival line. We are going to be piloting a safe arrival program at Glen Stewart Primary starting Monday morning. This program will have our office staff reaching out to any families who may have a child with an unexcused absence for the day. We encourage you to continue to reach out to homeroom teachers or our school absentee line to notify us if your child is planning to be absent or late on any given day. To report an absence please call 902-569-0550 ext. 300.
Our playground can be very wet and muddy in the spring. Rain boots and splashpants help keep students dry on many days.
