ALL STUDENT LAPTOPS WILL BE COLLECTED MAY 28-29. Details to follow via Flyer App, robocall, email, and social media.
Staff Priority #1: Provide students with a sense of school community and something resembling normal school life.
Students will have an affirming video message from various school leaders three times per week.
All students will attend advisory twice per week. Each advisory is an opportunity to connect live with the teacher and with other students.
How are things going? What support do you need from me?
What have been your successes? What struggles are you having?
Students have a moderated "Hallway Hangout" Google Classroom. They have an opportunity to connect with teachers and other students informally in moderated discussions, similar to the small groups students huddle in to talk and laugh during passing periods.
All students and parents will have the opportunity to visit the teacher during Office Hours, which are posted on each teacher's Classroom. Those hours are being collected and will be posted here on the Information Hub.
Staff Priority #2: Provide opportunities for students to engage in learning that will help to prevent learning loss between now and August
Students will have each content class twice per week, for a total of approximately four hours worth of work.
Classes will be largely self-paced, with most assignments due by 8 PM the same day.
Each lesson will have a clearly stated content-language objective, a component of direct instruction, an opportunity for independent practice, and an exit ticket to measure progress and should represent about an hour's worth of work.
Lessons will have recognized ELL sheltering strategies built-in for bilingual students.
Students will have access to 15 minutes of at-home PE activities daily.
Teachers will reach out to students who need further engagement in small group intervention, which would take place online through Google Meets.
Learning Support teachers are working to re-write all Individualized Education Plans for an online learning environment. If your student has an IEP, your child's Learning Support teacher will be reaching out soon to schedule a meeting.
KIPP Colorado and Denver Public Schools have ordered multiple hotspots to distribute to families who need internet access. Additionally, Comcast has their free or low-cost internet solution for families impacted by school closure, and also has a map of area hotspots for free.
At this time, KIPP Colorado is no longer distributing laptops at the schools. However, if you still need a device, please use the Tech Support form to request one.
Staff Priority #3: Continue to support students and families with their academic, social, and emotional needs through the remainder of the school year, including opportunities for further academic enrichment.
Students will have a daily or weekly check-in form to complete, depending on the advisory teacher. Teachers and mental health staff will use this information to determine who needs assistance. Such assistance can be for emotional needs, mental health needs, tech support needs, content class needs, or other items of need. Teachers receiving this information will then use it to refer students to other staff who can lean in an assist.
We will continue to have access to a school psychologist.
Google Meet live meetings with teachers are scheduled regularly, recorded for student and staff safety, and shared with school leaders and regional leaders for protection. Students are not able to meet in these groups without the teacher present, as they rely on a specific code that only works with the teacher is in the Meet. Students must use audio, but are not required to use video.
The Chromebook assigned to your child continues to have safety features built in that do not rely on being connected to school wifi to work.
Teachers will continue to monitor for and report any signs of abuse or trauma in order to ensure that students and families are provided any needed supports.
