Episode 1 - Closed Weekend
On Saturday morning all the boys headed down to Highbury for rugby. The girls went and supported the hockey players at Notties Primary.
We had lunch and relaxed and then it was game time. ”Impersonations” - was so much fun! The girls just loved doing skits on each other and the interns.
On Sunday morning after brunch, sun cream applied, hats, water bottles and with our packed picnic snacks, we left for Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve. An amazingly beautiful walk down to the waterfall and ‘bum-sliding’ down the rocks at the bottom. I’m not going to lie, the water was cold, but this did not stop the children. An ice-cream from Spur on the way home was a welcome treat. When we got back to school, the energy levels had not yet subsided… running around, rediscovering being children, was refreshing to see.
Please may I request that, after half term, the children that have bank cards, are returned home and that they bring cash. We do not have facilities to withdraw money and none of us are going to get their private pins to do this – it is not allowed. We have each child’s money in a separate envelope, labelled with their name on it, the date and amount of money they are taking out when needed. This stays in a locked cupboard in both mine and Mr Sibiya’s flats. The interns have access to this when on duty to hand out to the children when needed for the tuckshop, etc.
Your words paint a beautiful picture of the importance of nurturing relationships in our journeys. We weave our interactions with softness, light and compassion, creating vibrant conversations. It is in these moments of connection and understanding that the true enchantments blossom, enriching our work and lives.
Kind regards
