The Price Scholarship was established in 2015 by the Roy L. and Lorene W. Price family. Harriet Parris served Cleveland County Schools for over 40 years. The yearly scholarship amount varies up to $1400.

The Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship Program will award fifteen $2,500.00 college scholarships to high school seniors to continue their secondary education. The Park Scholarship is a highly competitive merit-based scholarship that fully covers 4 years at NC State University. Park Scholars are candidates who demonstrate four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The goal of the Park Scholars selection process "is to identify young people who demonstrate high academic achievement and leadership, as well as those with unusual aptitudes, uncommon talents and special gifts of creativity or entrepreneurial acumen".

POSTED 8/25/23: MOREHEAD-CAIN SCHOLARSHIP (UNC Chapel Hill)
The Morehead-Cain is a highly competitive merit-based scholarship that fully covers 4 years at UNC Chapel Hill. Nominees must demonstrate scholarship, leadership, moral force of character, and physical vigor. The Morehead-Cain website has the following statements for prospective scholars: "We’re looking for leaders with an ability to influence, energize, and inspire others to make an impact. We seek courage, humility, integrity, and perseverance. And an authentic love of learning and sharing newfound knowledge and inspiration with others".
Students may self nominate. Shelby High School can nominate 2 seniors for the Morehead-Cain. To be considered as a school endorsed nominee, email your HIgh School Activity Sheet as a PDF to Mrs. Froehlich by 8/29/23.

The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to exceptional student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential.
Eligibility requirements:
From at least one of the following ethnicities: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian/Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American
Pell-eligible, US citizen, national, or permanent resident
Minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3
An ideal candidate will be an outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class), have demonstrated leadership ability, participation in community service, and exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)
