Our neurologists are experts in the treatment of facial pain, atypical facial pain, and trigeminal neuralgia (TGN). Dr. Grewal has served as a medical director of a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to facial pain and TGN. We have treated patients with severe pain related to facial trauma and surgery, dental procedures, shingles, Lyme disease, multiple sclerosis, lupus, immunosuppression, HIV, and cancer. With addition training in cancer neurology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Grewal is comfortable evaluating patients with complex pain syndromes, such as those that commonly occur in cancer.
As experts in neuropathic pain, we work with neurosurgeons, ENT physicians, and pain management interventionalists to ensure that patients have access to the full gamut of treatment options ranging from standard and cutting-edge medical treatments to minimally invasive procedures, and, when absolutely necessary, radiosurgery and microvascular decompression (MVD). Additional options include topical therapies, rhizotomy, stellate & gasserian ganglion block, targeted botulinum-toxin injection (off label), radiofrequency ablation, and Gamma Knife. We don't overlook diet and other lifestyle contributing factors.
We always favor the least invasive option and escalate only when necessary. We steer patients away from risky procedures that they don't need. Many patients are able to discontinue narcotics pain medications.
We know that facial pain can range from annoying to excruciating, and nothing is more gratifying to us than a patient getting their life back.
