After tracing their names and some free-choice playtime, the preschoolers did a great job with their welcome songs, days of the week, and weather. After snack, Ms. Brens read, "How to Catch Santa Claus," and the children had fun doing a gingerbread freeze dance. Back in from recess, we worked on a special (secret) project that the preschoolers will share next week!
The preschoolers hand a nice and busy morning. They traced their names and enjoyed some free-choice play before singing their morning songs. After snack, Ms. Brens read, "Don't Push the Button! A Christmas Adventure." The students loved interacting with the book and hearing the silly story. Ms. Brens also read, "The Gingerbread Family." After recess, the children enjoyed more free-choice, with puzzles, a variety of blocks, building with gum drops and toothpics, crafting, and more.
Today we learned more about Kwanzaa. Ms. Brens read a great book, "My First Kwanzaa," that taught us all about this celebration. Mrs. K helped the preschoolers with a color-by-number kinara. The students also played a variety of learning games and seasonal puzzles with Ms. Brens. Since it was too wet to play outside, we played in the kiva and the kids had a blast. All our friends looked adorable in their jammies and cozy clothes today. Have a great weekend!
Today the preschoolers learned about Hanukkah. Ms. Brens read, "Grover's Eight Nights of Light," and taught the students how to play with a dreidel. Mrs. K helped the students decorate a construction paper dreidel with paint stamping. They enjoyed their time outside and ended the day with free-choice play and a Grinch freeze dance!
Today, the preschoolers did a nice job completing their morning activities. We also had library and they had fun looking for and checking out their new books. After snack, Ms. Brens read, "Santa's Little Helpers," and then we headed outside for recess. Back inside, we finished decorating our hand tracings to add to our "Giving Tree" display in the entrance. Ms. Brens worked with the students on a STEM activity building 2 and 3D structures from toothpicks and gumdrops.
The preschool and kindergarten classes are collecting new gloves, socks, scarves, and hats to give to those in need. If you would like to participate, send in your new, unworn donation by Dec. 16th. Also, this Friday is PJ day, and students can wear their pajamas to school.
Happy Monday! The AM preschoolers had a good morning - tracing their names, playing, and singing their morning songs. After snack, Ms. Brens read, "Pete the Cat, Making New Friends," and then it was off to recess for some time outside. Later, Ms. Brens and Mrs. K traced everyone's hands for a new display that will up on the preschool board in the Yellow entrance. The children also worked on adding some rosy cheeks to their gingerbread faces. Last week, the preschoolers made poinsettias that are now hanging on the Yellow Kiva tree.
The preschoolers had a busy morning this Friday. In addition to our welcome songs, Ms. Brens brainstormed 'G' words with the class. After snack, she read the story, "Gingerbread Mouse." Back inside after recess, Mrs. K helped the students paint gingerbread heads with puffy paint (paint mixed with shaving cream). Ms. Brens worked with them on a writing prompt about the Gingerbread Man. They got to fill in the blank about who he ran away from, and then draw a picture to show this. Finally, the preschoolers did an experiment where they put gingerbread cookies into warm water, vinegar, and oil to see what would happen to them. They made predictions and will check on them again next week. They also got to try gingerbread cookies and everyone said they liked the flavor. They ended the day with free-choice play and a freeze-dance!
