Rhyming Reindeer
At group time we reviewed what it means when word rhyme, they are words that sound the same at the end. We then matched the picture that the reindeer was holding with a correct picture that rhymed.
We took this activity to small group time and matched words that rhymed.
Our preschoolers are becoming rhyming pros, we are so impressed with how much they have learned in such a short period of time.
Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer!
Monday December 12
This week we are exploring Santa's Workshop and becoming little Elves ourselves working on a special project
S is for Santa
We are working on letter S this week. Today we traced and wrote the letter S.
Friday December 9
We reviewed letter C on the large white board as a class. This quickly turned into a math activity when our preschoolers started to notice the color blue was winning. When we were done we counted how many Cs were written in blue and green. Blue had 13 and green had 6...making blue win!
Holiday Science
Baking soda & vinegar cookie cutters!
We predicted what would happen when we used the eye droppers filled with vinegar and squeezed it on the baking soada. We saw it fizz, bubble and even saw glitter!
Thursday December 8
We made Christmas trees today! We first drew a triangle and then cut it out. We decorated it with ornaments & lights.
Wednesday December 7
Today we explored a few more holidays that are celebrated this time of year. We read a shine a light book called Holidays and Traditions. It was fun to see how other people celebrate holidays.
We explored Christmas, Las Posadas, Hanukkah, St. Lucia Day, Kwanzaa & New Year's Eve.
For small group we became authors and illiustrators. We read each page and determined how that holiday is celebrated. We cut out each picture and then glued it in our book.
Holiday Lights
We used dot markers to create lightbulbs to decorate our bulletin board!
Happy 5th Birthday Liam!
Tuesday December 6
This week we are exploring the many different celebrations that are happening this time of year. Today we read and learned about Hanukkah. We learned about their traditions of lighting the Menorah, playing with a dreidel and eating latkes (potato pancakes)
We used different sized Legos and dipped them in white and shades of blue paint (the colors of Hanukah.)
Monday December 5
Intro to Letter of the week...C!
Today we introduced our new letter this week. At group time we went over the sound and how to write an uppercase & lowercase C. We read our letter C book and each got a turn to share a word that began with C.
We then practiced tracing and writing them on our own. We must have been hard at work because Mrs. B forgot to take pictures, oops!
Friday December 2
Letter G review!
We reviewed the sound and how to write an uppercase and lowercase G. We also reviewed some older letters and had to figure out if the letter was uppercase or lowercase. For a challenge, I wrote my last name... Bastermajian, they all giggled and said "Mrs. B that's a lot of letters!"
Uh Oh... Gingerbread boys/girls on the run!
Our job was to find the matching letter gingerbread boy/girl that matched their gingerbread house.
Gingerbread Book Study
This week we continued exploring story elements.
We learned:
-Characters can be a person, animal or even food (like our gingerbread man!)
-The setting is where the story takes place in the book.
-The problem is what went wrong, what happened?
-The solution, how did the problem got fixed.
We used context clues like pictures in the stories to recap the three of them and how they were similar and different.
We found:
-That they all had a lot of the same characters.
-The settings were different.
-The problem was the Gingerbread Man was always getting lost from his classmates.
-The solution was another character who helped the Gingerbread Man find his classmates.
I am very, very proud of our preschoolers, they are taking these early learning concepts and really thriving.
Thursday December 1
We had a special visitor come today!
We worked as a team to come up with names and then voted on the names we liked best. These were the final four!
We counted to see which name had more votes...
Meet our Elf, Santa!
Gingerbread Houses
We created our own gingerbread houses. We first used our fine motor skills to carefully cut out our house. We then glued gumdrops, windows and a door. We got very creative and even added lights, icing, shapes and even gingerbread boys or girls.
Wednesday November 30
Today we reviewed story elements and once again our preschoolers were able to recap what they were and even went over our story from yesterday.
Today we read Gingerbread Loose on a Firetruck. Once we were done we went over these elements and even compared how they were the same and different from yesterday's story (while looking at pictures from the two books).
We found many things that were the same and a few that were different.
Gingerbread Playdough
Today we used ingredients to make our own gingerbread playdough. We had so much fun using our hands to mix our own personal size playdough!
Tuesday November 29
We introduced story elements while reading Gingerbread Loose in the School . Before reading we defined who the characters are, the setting, the problem and the solution (how the problem gets solved)
While reading we walked & talked a loud each element. Ponting out the characters, setting, problem and solution. Once we were done reading I presented our preschoolers with the task of retelling the story while including these elements and boy they did not disappoint!
We are so proud of how well they listen at story time and are able to retain information enough to retell. We have some very smart preschoolers :)
Gingerbread House
This free choice activity allowed our preschoolers to become little engineers and make their own houses for tiny bears (gingerbread men)
Hearing and seeing their little minds hard at work is so much fun. You really get to see them hard at work, problem solving and working as a team.
Run, Run, as Fast as You Can You, You Can't Catch Me I'm Gingerbread Man
It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas in P03
We made ornaments for our classroom tree!
Monday November 28
Today we introduced our new letter of the week.. G! What a perfect letter because this week we will be reading different Gingerbread stories and exploring the story elements and what makes them the same and what makes them different.
We started this week by tracing an uppercase & lowercase G while talking about the sound it makes and what starts with a G.
It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas
Today we decorated ornaments for the tree in the yellow kiva!
Friday November 18
We played a fun math game today... Roll a Turkey!!
We rolled, identified/matched the color M&M to the feather, counted and compared the feathers.
The best part we got to eat the M&Ms afterward!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Mrs. H & I are SO VERRY THANKFUL for all of our preschoolers & their families! We hope you all have a great Thanksgiving & break!
