Today we started working on one of our many SPECIAL projects that will be revealed at a later date!
Today we made Christmas trees! Before we stared we talked about the shapes we see on a Christmas tree. I demonstrated how to draw them all and then we got started. First, the preschoolers drew their triangles on the paper. Then, cut out both their triangle tree and their rectangle tree stump. They then decorated it with additional shapes using markers, stickers, and paper.

Today the preschoolers built an elf out of the letters of their name. Together we built Rainbow's name elf, so they could see what materials they were using and in what order to build the elf. I then spread them out and let them work. I am happy to say besides a few backwards letters, they all independently put their elves together with their names spelled correctly!
This week and next the sensory table is the North Pole! Inside is fake snow, jingle bells, pom poms, fillable plastic ornaments, mini holiday erasers, and holiday figures!
Today we did a fun painting activity. The preschoolers used straws to paint holiday wreaths. The ends of the straws were cut and fanned out to give the wreaths a more textured look.
Today we conducted a really fun science experiment. We submerged three candy canes into three different liquids. Before we placed them in the cups, each preschooler made a prediction about what they thought would happen to the candy cane. I let them fell and smell the liquids before they made their predictions. Once their predicitions were made we filled the cups with water, vinegar(with a little baking soda magic), and oil. After nap, we are going to document what actually happened to our three candy canes.
Today we worked on number recognition and counting. Each preschooler was given a fireplace with a number inside. They needed to search through the stockings to find the three stockings that went with their number. One stocking had dash marks, one had dots, and one had small candy canes. The preschoolers needed to take their time to count each dash, dot, or candy cane to make sure they were putting the correct number on their mantle.
Today we read the The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas. This was the last book in our Gingerbread Man book study. The preschoolers did a great jobcompleting our story board. I'm excited for our next book study in the spring.
