Meet the Counselor

Hey Y'aIl!

I'm Densua Bonner-Hicks and I am so excited to serve as Swint's school counselor! Just a little about me, I received my undergraduate degree from Georgia State University and completed my masters program at Mercer University in Atlanta. I love spending time with my family and friends, football (go Falcons!), and spending time outdoors. I've served as a mental health professional for almost 5 years. The transition from elementary to middle school is a very important time in our students' lives and I am honored I get to help guide our scholars through this experience. Counselor Duties

• Development and management of a comprehensive school counseling program

• Facilitate guidance curriculum activities

• Coordinate activities

• Counsel students to promote self-awareness, self – identify, and positive social and academic skills

• Respond effectively to immediate students’ needs and concerns

• Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs

• Consult and coordinate with school psychologist, nurses, administrators, community based counselors, service agencies, and physicians

• Articulate the role of school counselor to school and community

• Advocate for equal access to programs and services for all students

• Collect and review data to ensure a successful counseling program that provides students with a safe learning environment
