In Year 10 you will:
You will attend an evening where all the key dates for the year are explained, as well as introducing both you and your parents/ guardians to how Careers education has changed. This will recap the different routes you can take that you learned in Year 8 and Year 9, and show you how to use the school resources to support your journey.
Have regular IT supported careers lessons throughout the year. These will help you to research and choose which course or training to follow in Y12 and help you with your applications to the different post 16 education providers.
You will then look at local labour market information, further challenge stereotypical careers thinking, recognise and celebrate all the employability skills you have developed, and think about how best to manage your finances going forward.
Be given the opportunity to have a week of work experience in Term 6.
You will also learn about Health and Safety in the workplace.
You will create a CV and a draft personal statement.
Visit two local 6th form colleges for a Taster day. You will be encouraged to start looking at your options post -16.
You may be able to visit Oxford or Cambridge universities. You will be offered trips to visit local employers and/or universities if these become available.
General Dynamics UK offer a visit to their site and will take a number of students for work experience.
You will have a 1:1 interview with a qualified Careers Advisor and will be introduced to support available to anyone struggling with making the next steps.
