“The true test of a person’s character is what they do
when no one is watching.”
Coach John Wooden
EXCELLENCE – ON & OFF the field.
The LSW Boys Soccer Program are firm believers in how you treat others and represent yourself is reflective of the program. We want Student-Athletes who will not "embarrass the badge" and in general are “LOW MAINTENANCE to NO MAINTENANCE”.
***Due to the wide-ranging array of situations & scenarios, The LSW Boys Soccer Program Coaching Staff reserves the right to take things on a case-by-case basis. The information below serves as a baseline for potential issues that may arise during the school year/season.

Training Attendance Policy - "Training for Minutes"
Athletes are expected to be on time (10 minutes early), ready to go for training everyday (Times may vary).
If an athlete is injured, they are still expected to be at training, and then should make arrangements to see the Athletic Trainers to receive treatment and then attend training once treatment is over.
Excused Absence: Player/Parents need to communicate this in advance of absence - Ex: funerals, mandatory school events etc.
1 No-Call, No Show = Chat with Coach - Sit for Half of Match
2 No-Call, No Show = 1-Match Suspension
3 No-Call, Now Show = 2-Match Suspension
4+ = Done for the Season
If an athlete misses training or a game (even if it is parent acknowledged), it will be at the coaches discretion as to the playing status of that player (Training = minutes)
General Guideline: If you miss a Training Session and it is not excused by coaches, players will sit for 1 half, 2 Training Sessions = Full Match etc.
Academics, Attendance, & Behavior
Behavior which brings program into disrepute is unacceptable. Players who are receiving multiple referrals, causing classroom issues, failing classes, or not arriving on time will be given additional guidance and support.
Tardies and Truancies are unacceptable. Players are encouraged to find a way to mitigate these occurrences. Leave Earlier from home, layout clothing/breakfast the night before, stop hanging out with people who make you late, strategically use the restroom etc.
Failing classes is unacceptable. Players are STUDENT-Athletes. If a player is not passing classes, they will be given a short-term ultimatum to fix the issues. If issues are not amended, then players may start to see decreased match time until the situation improves.
Per the NSAA, schools and programs have discretion with regards to staffing, team selection, and team rules. https://nsaa-static.s3.amazonaws.com/textfile/yb/c&b.pdf
***If issues are addressed by the coaching staff to the player and the situation does not improve, this will be taken into account with regards to our selection process and playing time during the season.
Substance Abuse
If you are caught Vaping, Smoking (cigarettes, cigars, marijuana, THC etc.), consuming alcohol, or doing drugs, at a minimum you will be 21 Days and need to miss a minimum of 3 matches, per LPS Policy.
Many of our matches occur in a short time span (3 matches in 1 week). There is the potential for a Student-Athlete could miss 50-60% of their season for putting themselves in a bad situation.
Also, per LPS/LSW Policy, there is *NO DIFFERENCE between being caught consuming, or being caught at the place of others consuming.
If you miss matches due to detrimental conduct, please know that the team will/may have moved on from that player and playing time/position is not guaranteed. You will dress out after your 21 days are up, but may sit on the bench for further matches.
Additionally, during a player's suspension, they will serve the program by Ball-Shagging during matches behind one of the goals. Players will be expected to arrive with the team, but will be active during the match in that capacity.
On-Field Issues
Defined as any actions that can take away from the success of the TEAM on the field of play.
Example 1: Straight Red Cards involving verbal abuse towards the opposition (i.e. profanity, racist, sexist, or homophobic epithets).
Example 2: Straight Red Cards involving physical abuse that does not involve a soccer related play. (i.e. throwing punches, spearing, head-butting, shoving etc.).
Players who participate in this type of behavior may be subject to additional consequences beyond the NSAA mandatory 1-match ban.
Players will receive an additional 1 Match from Coaches which results in potentially 2+ Match Suspension (current match, NSAA Ban, Coach’s Ban).
Players will be expected to be in attendance. However, they will not be allowed to sit with team during the match, but instead will shag balls.
*If an infraction is serious enough in nature, an immediate suspension of the season may be imposed.
