Can I participate if I’m on a one-year contract?
Yes! If you begin ElevatED on a one-year contract, your participation will be honored if you receive a continuing contract.
Who can participate?
LPS ElevatED is designed for educators who are new to LPS or transitioning to a new grade level or subject area.
When do I need to complete ElevatED?
Full-time (1.0 FTE) staff: By March 31st of your third probationary year.
Part-time staff: Contact HR to confirm your deadline.
Do I need to take courses in order?
Yes, courses must be taken in sequence as listed on the LPS website. If you have concerns, reach out to HR for guidance.
What if I don’t complete a course?
Instructors will send reminders to support you. If you need additional assistance, a tenure leader or principal will work with you to create a plan. Lack of course completion may result in the following actions that include, but are not limited to: contacting a supervisor and documentation, having to retake a course, and/or inability to achieve tenure status in LPS.
What if I miss a class?
If you must miss class, acceptable absences include sick leave as described in Section 8-1 a. (1).; emergency leave described in Section 8-1 b. (6).; adoption leave; civic leave; jury duty leave; bereavement leave; assault and/or battery leave; or professional leave. For all absences, you are expected to makeup the missed course. Communicate with the course facilitator or Dr. Amy Clark, Director of Continuous Improvement and Professional Learning, for completion options. Repeated absences, especially unexcused absences, may result in the following actions that include, but are not limited to: contacting a supervisor and documentation, having to retake a course, and/or inability to achieve tenure status in LPS.
How should I communicate an absence?
Please notify your instructor as soon as possible and complete any missed work before the next session. If attendance becomes a concern, support will be provided to help you stay on track and your principal will be notified.
What if I have parent-teacher conferences?
We understand that scheduling conflicts happen. Please communicate with your instructor and complete any missed assignments or choose an alternate session if one exists.
What if I’m a coach or club sponsor?
Your ElevatED courses are an important part of your professional growth and take precedence over other duties as required by board policy. If you are coaching a contest (not practice) at the same time as class, accommodations can be discussed with your facilitator. Do your best to plan ahead for these dates and make arrangements.
Can I bring my child to class?
To ensure the best learning environment for everyone, we ask that you make alternative childcare arrangements.
