LPS MTSS Framework
What is MTSS?
A Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a term used to describe an evidence-based model of schooling that uses data-based problem-solving to integrate academic, communication, and behavioral instruction and intervention. In LPS, many educators referred to this in the past as RTI.
Why MTSS?
MTSS supports all students across tiers
Helps teams make decisions and problem-solve using data
Encompasses both academic and behavior (evidenced-based practices including PBiS, CITW, Explicit Instruction and Data Teams)
Implemented within generalized and specialized instructional settings
Proactive in addressing needs
Multiple ways to support students across tiers
Builds consistency and common practices across the district
Is an intervention process to prevent the need for Special Education support, however can potentially be used to identify students for Special Education
Tier 3 does not equal Special Education
