FRESHMEN BAND

Freshmen Band

Freshmen Band at LSW provides the opportunities for freshmen students to experience a sampling of all of the band offerings that LSW has to offer! Freshmen band meets during Block 2A and nearly all of our rehearsals happen during the school day.

Quarter 1

Freshmen students attend band camp with Varsity Marching Band members and learn the fundamentals of marching band and build relationships with other students while completing a short marching show of their own. They will perform this show at two marching contests in October, typically 1 to 2 parades, and perform with the Varsity band at Homecoming and are invited to all other pep band games!

Quarter 2

In quarter two, freshmen band shifts gears and we begin concert band. Percussionists also begin working on music for the fourth quarter percussion ensemble concert. We work on preparing music to take part of the full music department winter concert that includes all bands, orchestras, and choirs!

Quarter 3

Concert band continues throughout third quarter and we also add freshmen jazz band! Students who elect to do jazz band alternate going to jazz band or concert band every other day. There is a jazz band concert this quarter and students can also elect to perform a solo or small ensemble piece for the LPS Solo and Small Ensemble Contest.

Quarter 4

Concert band and jazz band continue and culminate in our final concerts! Concert band performs with Symphonic band and Wind Ensemble, and percussion ensemble shares a concert with all orchestras. Freshmen jazz opens Swing Night which is a big band dance that serves as the band programs largest fundraiser of the year!
