In a typical year, Lincoln Public Schools requires each senior to complete 20 hours of community service in order to be eligible to graduate. The 2021 - 22 school year will be a variation on that theme. Below are resources to help students complete their community service hours.
Sometimes, Mr. Bargen will post new volunteering opportunities on Google Classroom. (Log in and then click on the "Service Learning" topic on the left-hand side of the page).

College Credit: why AP?
Aside from the college-ready skills and content focus that an AP curriculum provides, grades in AP courses are "weighted," meaning that any grade C and above counts a full letter-grade higher in the student's GPA (so the highest grade possible in an AP course is 5.0). Likewise, students in AP courses can earn college credit through year-end exams administered by the College Board.
The current cost of an AP Exam is $103. This cost is substantially lower than the cost of a 3 credit-hour course at UNL with in-state tuition (over $800):
College Credit: why Wesleyan Honors Academy?
Another way that you can earn college credit in this course is a dual-credit option offered through Nebraska Wesleyan University's "Wesleyan Honors Academy" (WHA). In short, if you earn a B or better in this course, you will be awarded 3 hours of college credit through Nebraska Wesleyan University. That college credit transfers to any college/university in Nebraska (and to over 90% of colleges around the country). The cost of the course through WHA is currently $285. While this cost is higher than the AP exam option, the advantage is that your evaluation is based on the course of an 18-week semester rather than the result of a 3-hour AP exam administered on one day. Likewise, WHA is still more cost-efficient than a similar course with in-state tuition offered at UNL.
Scholarships Available from the State of Nebraska
The State of Nebraska provides a program (through the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education) that can pay for the cost of enrolling in Wesleyan Honors Academy.
