January/February

January was a month of coding fun and exploration! We were able to learn how to code using an app called Coding Safari. This helped the students understand sequence the beginning stages of algorithms. By putting directions (code) in order we were able to be ready for the Bee-Bots that came at the end of January. These Bee Bots took coding to a new level as students had to program every move of the bee to make it to the beehive.

In February we plan to continue our exploration of coding and algorithms by using the robots names Dash and Dot. These robots are controlled by I-Pads and a program that Wonder Workshop has created. In order to complete a task, the students will need to piece together the correct coding algorithm. We are also learning about the basics of Chromebooks and how to sign in, sign out, and care for them responsibly.

December

This month we learned how to use an app called Kahoot! This is a live ¨quiz", where students get to see the questions on the board and then answer them on their IPad. They get instant feedback if their answer was correct or not and then we talk about it as a whole class. We worked on beginning sounds of words, and counting on with numbers!

December 9-13th is Hour of Code week! This will kick off our coding unit and we will return to it after students come back after Winter Break.

November

This month we are exploring new apps on our IPads! We are learning how to take pictures, record our voices, and add animation and decorate our picture. We are able to make our picture talk and tell a story using the app Chatterpix. Ask your student what they took a picture of and what their object said!

We are also working on the app "Teach Your Monster To Read". This is a great app to help them recognize letters, sounds, and even words! The students love creating their own monster avatars and helping their monster get back to their home!

October: This month in technology class we are learning how to treat our IPads safely and care for them. We have been practicing hard on double clicking and swiping out of applications. ( If you have a mobile/technology device, see if they can show you that they can do it) We have also been practicing how to safely insert and remove our headphones from our IPads.

We have also learned about what it takes to be a Digital Citizen and use technology safely and responsibly. Watch the short video explaining the Digital Citizens here.

I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know your kindergarteners!
