December

This month we are working on creating posters in Google Slides. Students chose one of the 7 Habits and they are creating their very own poster to display that habit. Their only requirements were to have the habit on there (as a title), insert a graphic to help us better understand the habit, and also include a small explanation of the habit or their graphic they chose. These posters will be judged and the top three of every class will be printed and hung around the school! Ask your child which habit they chose to display!

Before students leave for break we will be taking our final typing test to see how many words per minute they have grown this semester. In the beginning of the year, the students took a typing test that told them their accuracy and how many WPM they were able to type. They set a goal based on this and we have been working hard to get better in order to reach that goal.

Also, the week of December 9-13 is Hour of Code week! This will kick off our coding unit that we will pick up when we get back from Winter Break!

November

This month we are continuing to improve on our typing skills and accuracy. We do this by practicing at the beginning of each class period on Keyboarding Without Tears. Ask your student what square they are on with their progress map!

We are also beginning to dive into Google Apps! We have started to explore Google Drive and understand what it is used for. We spent a day organizing it and understanding how important it is to stay organized in order to keep track of our work and know where to find it when we need it.

We are also starting to work on Google Docs. We will explore the different tools that you can use in Docs by completing a scavenger hunt! Students will be able to performs tasks such as editing the font, (size, color, format, etc.) inserting and editing pictures, inserting tables, creating links, and other fun tools!

September/ October

This month in technology class we are going to be working towards becoming more accurate and better typists. We have taken a three minute typing test to see how many Words Per Minute your student can type. And we have also set an attainable, yet challenging goal for them to work towards until we take another test before Christmas Break in December. Ware working towards this goal by placing our hands on home row and not only using a few fingers to "peck" at the keys.

We learned what kind of information is not safe to share online and what kinds of information is okay to share online. Being online can be dangerous if we are not being safe and responsible. Also, we learned how important it is to balance our lives with un-plugged time and plugged-in time! Too much of anything is not good! Balance feels best!

We are also going to be working on navigating Google Classroom and Google Docs. We are learning that Technology can not only be used as a toy but used as a TOOL!
