January/February

January was a month of coding fun and exploration! We were able to learn how to code using a website called Code.org. This helped the students understand sequence the beginning stages of algorithms. By putting directions (code) in order we were able to be ready for the Bee-Bots that came at the end of January. These Bee Bots took coding to a new level as students had to program every move of the bee to make it to the beehive. This was a fun way for students to explore, problem solve coding, and work together in a group.

In February we plan to continue our exploration of coding and algorithms by using the robots named Dash and Dot. These robots are controlled by I-Pads and a program that Wonder Workshop has created. In order to complete a task, the students will need to piece together the correct coding algorithm. We are also continuing to improve on our typing skills as the year progresses. We will take our first typing test on typing.com to see how fast and accurate our typing skills are. We are hoping to improve this score before the end of the year.

December

This month we have been creating a Google Slide together in class. In our slide we are talking about the first two Habits. The first one is Be Proactive. ( Ask your student what they put for how they show they are proactive.) The second slide we created was on the second habit, Begin with the end in mind. ( this habit is about having a plan before you do something or setting a goal.) Ask your student what goal they set on their slide.

Students learned skills such as creating a slideshow, adding slides, titling each slide, inserting text, and inserting and formatting pictures.

Also, we are continuing to work on their typing skills and accuracy by working through the Keyboarding without Tears program.

Hour of Code week is December 9-13th! This will kick off our coding unit for when we get back from Winter Break!

November

This month in technology class we are continuing to become more accurate and faster typists. We are continuing to work through the program Keyboarding Without Tears. Ask your child what square they are on with their progress map!!

We are also starting to explore Google Docs. Students are learning the different tools that are available to help them while they are using a Doc. We will start with the basics of editing the font size, color, and style. Then we will go into inserting images, editing them, and much more! Ask your student what image they put in their Google Doc! Along with Docs, we are learning how to use our Google Drive and how to keep it organized by creating folders and naming the documents in their Drive.

September/October

This month in technology class we are going to be working towards becoming more accurate and better typists. We are working on placing our hands on home row and not only using a few fingers to "peck" at the keys. We are also going to be working on navigating Google Classroom and Google Docs. We are learning that Technology can be used as a TOOL in school instead of a TOY!

We learned what kind of information is not safe to share online and what kinds of information is okay to share online. Being online can be dangerous if we are not being safe and responsible. Also, we learned how important it is to balance our lives with un-plugged time and plugged-in time! Too much of anything is not good! Balance feels best!
