Mertie's Time Machine

A History Mystery from the Clackamas County Historical Society

Step back in time with our new school tour program for 4th- & 5th-graders

In partnership with the Ermatinger House and the City of Oregon City

Mertie's Time Machine is a school program operated out of the Stevens-Crawford Heritage House, a small house museum located in Oregon City owned by the Clackamas County Historical Society.

Can you help Mertie Stevens get back to 1908?

In a time-travel mishap, Mertie has been sent to the future, and needs you (or your students) help her get back to the past! Will you solve the mystery in time for everyone to get back to their own year--and make it to lunch?

Students work collaboratively in small groups of 4 to 6 in order to solve a series of hands-on historical puzzles. As they hunt for clues, they might make a call on a candlestick telephone, send and receive telegrams, decode mysterious recipe cards, and find hidden messages in historical titles.

This experiential adventure is centered around the ways technology has changed over time and impacted life in our state over the last 150 years.
