Geo-based Solutions Lab

NbS is an abbreviation for Nature-based Solutions defined by IUCN as “actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems, that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits”. We devised a new term Geo-based Solutions (GbS) based on this. We are interested in the relationships, interactions, and history of the natural environment and humans. We want to present a way to use and preserve nature wisely.

Catholic Kwandong University is located in Gangneung on the central east coast of the Korean Peninsula. It is a great place to study various geomorphological features, including high mountains and rivers, estuaries and lagoons, sandy beaches and beach ridges, and soft and rocky coastal landforms. Geology is also very diverse, including igneous rock, sedimentary rock, and metamorphic rock. It has a long history since the Neolithic period and is suitable for exploring interactions with nature and humans. Although the history of our research team is short, we are working hard to conduct precise research for the long future, using scientific tools such as network RTK-GPS, UAVs, AWS, and absolute dating techniques.
