If a student is interested in doing online courses through Virtual Academy, who should they contact?
Families interested in attending should complete an Inquiry Form. Our staff will get back to you to share information about the program, answer questions, and walk you through the registration process.
Students in grades K-12 living in the Central Kitsap School District are the target population. Up to 10% of the students may be from outside CK district.
This answer depends on how quickly your child and you move through the content. On average expect to spend about 3-4 hours online per day. We encourage families to break this up throughout the child’s day with non-screen time activities.
Priority is given to full time students, but if space is available a student may be taking classes offline also. Important: Unless the offline courses are not offered, those classes must be taken at Barker Creek Community School.
CKSD provides a Chromebook device for students. Reliable internet connectivity is required for online learning.
Does the program provide textbooks and other instructional materials?
This program is designed to be fully digital. However, some grade level and course specific materials are provided to families and are sent to homes directly from Pearson. CKSD has printed materials available for students in elementary grades.
Students will receive additional support from an IEP case manager.
New students interested in enrolling will work with school staff to discuss placement and ensure that the program will meet your student's unique learning needs.

Can my child work independently on courses?
A "learning coach" is necessary and parent/guardian support is highly recommended for elementary aged students.

Students in grades 6-8 will be placed in recommended math classes based on prior skill levels. Other advanced placement classes are not offered.

Students progress through the courses by showing proficiency/passing scores for each section. Students should plan to work on classes for about 3-4 hours per day for 5 days a week to complete courses on time.

No, they are not offered. Online students will only be able to take 2 courses online at one time, and the time frame for completing the courses is six weeks, which will not work for AP classes.
Can a student take online classes, but still graduate with their neighborhood high school?
Any student who completed their graduation requirements through the online program will only be allowed to earn a Barker Creek Community School diploma.
